We moved to New Jersey in 1993 to pursue a career opportunity for me, and chose Westfield because it checked off all our boxes: first and foremost, an excellent public education system, physical beauty, a diverse population with excellent demographics, an engaged community with many civic activities and opportunities to participate in, excellent restaurants, and a great location vis a vis Newark Airport and New York City. After narrowing our choices to Westfield and Short Hills, our boys actually made the decision for us by commenting that Westfield had lots of sidewalks and everyone was out and about compared to Short Hills, which had neither characteristic. We never looked back and happily raised our boys here, where they have thrived. In 2009 we decided to build a new home, but it had to be in Westfield, a community we'd come to know and love. So, we built this home on Wyandotte Trail, right around the corner from our old house. It fulfilled our needs perfectly. Perhaps it will do the same for you.
When a real estate agent introduces a prospective client to Westfield, they'll invariably drive them through downtown's Mindowaskin Park because it's so beautiful and enjoyed by the residents. In fact, on a nice spring day like today, wedding parties literally line up in the park to take their wedding photos. There are band-shell performances in the summer to complement the tradition of Tuesday Night Jazz. My wife and I are very involved with the Friends of Brightwood Park, an organization devoted to preserving a beautiful nature preserve in our town. It's one of many civic organizations. If you're seriously thinking about moving to any town, you should do your research as we did. For starters, I recommend learning about Westfield by visiting the town's excellent website. We recently moved to Tampa to be near our son and grandchildren but there will always be Westfield in our blood. So now, come with me; I'd like to show you our home that is for sale and ready to be enjoyed by a new family.
This house was built by Matt Nilsen of Stonecreek Homes in 2010. Matt has a long history of building fine homes in this part of NJ. This house was built as "an improvement" to a smaller pre-existing home by doubling the footprint of the main house, enlarging the basement and adding a garage. You can see the floor plans by clicking on the "Documents" link.
This home has 3100 sq ft on the first floor, 3100 sq ft on the second floor, similar square footage in the basement, as well as an 825 sq ft garage. There are 5 full baths, 2 half baths and between 5 and 7 bedrooms depending upon what you call an office and what you call a bedroom. There are 4 HVAC units with 5 zones, and a full house emergency generator.
We designed this home to have an open floor plan which would facilitate flow throughout the first floor and to bring in as much light and pleasant views as possible, while maintaining privacy. We left the mature trees intact for their beauty as there is more than enough flat space for fun and games (like Bocce Ball, our favorite) in the rest of the backyard.
